The Challenge: Pastors, take a mission trip to a refugee chuch body.
Teach, learn and build relationships for long-term kingdom impact! Global Partnerships in Mission is a discipleship strategy crafted by the Lutheran Church of South Sudan and their U.S. partners.  Two qualified Lutheran pastors from the U.S. are invited to the seminary in Gambella, Ethiopia for short-term mission trip. There they teach specialized topics in a seminar format. They learn as well from the Sudanese faculty and students as they visit their home ministry context. These friendships grow into partnerships that support one another’s ministry and nurture personalized relationships with the congregations involved. Both partners expand their view of God’s kingdom as see how God is reaching people from all nations, tribes and tongues!

Dates available:

Trip 1: Thursday, June 13 to Saturday June 22
Trip 2: Thursday, July 11 to Saturday July 20
Trip`3: Thursday, Sept. 11 to Saturday Sept. 20
Trip 4: Thursday, Oct. 10 to Saturday Oct. 19

What is the overall objective?
* Building relationships that nurture a global mission partnership for both parties. Both African and American are built up and encouraged in the body of Christ as they share their gifts and celebrate how God is working in both ministries.
* The U.S. pastors return home but continue contact with their three sponsored students. The pastors’ congregations are invited to enter ongoing support of these students. Support goes two ways. The Sudanese students and their congregations pray for the needs in the U.S. churches as do the U.S. Churches.

How much time does this take?
* U.S. pastors fly out on a Thursday and arrive back home on the Saturday 9 days later.
* This covers Day 1 and 2 on the front end and  Day 8 and 9 returning home.

How do we get around when there?
* You will have an escort and guide. You become familiar with the setting after arriving.
* Day 3 is spent in becoming familiar with the setting.

How much teaching do I do?
*  Each pastor prepares a series of 4 one-hour sessions covering an agreed upon topic.
* These four sessions will take longer than four hours after discussion and translation is factored.
* One Teaching Pastor presents to one-half the group and the other Teaching Pastor presents to the other. Then the second day they switch back.
* This covers Day 4 and 5

How are the topics selected?
* When you apply, you will be able to submit three topics you might like to present. The review committee will respond to your submissions or suggest other options. The teachings will fit the schools theological coursework.

What are my class sizes and teaching tools available?
* More of that information will be included when you are selected.

How do I get to know my partner students?
* You will have 3 students to spend time with and answer questions and travel with to see local ministry settings.
* Day 6 and part of Day 7
