Have you ever given considerable time and thought to the perfect gift, placed it in a box, and dressed it in enticing wrapping paper only to have the paper ripped off, discarded, the gift laid aside, and then watched the box become the best part of your gift? No doubt you have just given a gift to a small child. But boxes are interesting even to adults. My journey with Women in Mission: LWML involves two boxes, one small and one large. The Mite Box, a 2x3 inch box sat on my mother's dresser. She faithfully placed her coins into it until it was bursting. Those coins were added to the coins other women placed in their boxes. Over the years, millions of dollars have been gathered through the small Mite Box. In a very subtle way, the small box & my mother taught me the importance of faithfully giving and of not discounting the size of your contribution. God will multiply it. Fast forward to adulthood: the Mite Box still exists. The design recently changed yet the size is the same. It is a core part of gathering donations for a multitude of Mission Grants. In my humble opinion, there should be one on every dresser so every child can learn from their mother what I learned from mine. The other box in my journey with LWML is a US Postal Service Flat Rate Box: nothing fancy. For years, Lutheran Women in Mission at KOK packed these boxes with care supplies and homemade cookies for military troop members around the world. This Mission was my introduction to the generous hearts and hard-working hands of the women at King of Kings. Each box recipient was prayed for and written an encouraging note. Typically, a New Testament & devotional material was included. I watched in awe at how much could be placed in those boxes. The invisible ingredient was love. I am sure the box was less valued than the contents. The fellowship that this Mission and other Missions of the LWML at King of Kings is the embodiment of the authentic community King of Kings values. My life has been very blessed to be part of this group of women who share Jesus with others and "Serve the Lord with Gladness." Psalm 100:2
